Many people in India do not experience faith, hope, and love like God intended because they do not have a relationship with him – not because they choose not to, but because they never heard of him. Join Equip 28 in changing that!
Equip 28 has adopted the Gospel Coalition’s Confessional Statement. All our Board members and partners subscribe to this statement.
The above Bible verse (1 Corinthians 13:13, ESV) is often called a “love letter.” Written by the Apostle Paul, it is part of his letter and pleading to the Corinthians emphasizing that faith, hope and love is the most crucial element of the Christian life, and without following Christ it simply cannot be achieved.
India is the world’s most populated and unreached country, with hundreds of thousands of villages and communities, many in the most remote parts of the universe, never having heard of the Gospel.
In Romans 10:14-15 (ESV), Apostle Paul establishes the vital role of evangelism and mission work in God’s plan for salvation. Hearing the message is essential for belief and salvation, and that the message must be delivered by sent individuals.
India has thousands of diverse indigenous groups with more than 1600 different native tongues – the Bible has yet to be translated in over 1500 of these languages.
Jesus pronounces salvation for the whole world in the Great Commission )(Mathew 28:18-20, ESV). Before his ascension, he assures us we are not alone in this/our mission.
India is the most populous country in the world with over 1.460 billion people and the most ethnically diverse nation with approximately 2,400 people groups, of which 2,048 are listed as unreached. With only an estimated 2%+ evangelical Christians, India is the least evangelized nation with hundreds of millions of people with limited or no access to the gospel.
The church in India has been growing through church planting movements and various outreach ministries. However, many churches in India remain weak due to a variety of reasons.
Less than 1% of pastors have any formal Bible training.
As a result, a lot of churches have minimal spiritual growth and are not adequately equipped to effectively proclaim and defend the gospel within their communities, and can fall victim to false teaching and doctrine due to a lack of discernment.
Poverty and illiteracy are significant and interconnected issues in India , particularly in rural villages where the majority of churches are located and the needs are most.
Today, it is estimated there are only 7 workers per million unreached people.
Churches in these rural areas of India simply do not have the means or know how to properly equip pastors and believers. In addition, there are not enough cross-cultural workers in India to reach all of the unreached people with the gospel.
In the Gosples of Matthew and Luke
Despite a strategic shift in missionary work emphasizing cultural relevance and local leadership, the disparity between the number of receptive people and those delivering the message remains stark. We believe prayer is our greater work and a crucial component of our mission.
We are committed to equipping and strengthening the Church in India to know, love and worship God…because Jesus clearly commanded us too in the Gospel of Matthew.

According to the Joshua Project, a People Group in India is a large group of individuals who share common traits such as language, religion, ethnicity, or class. For evangelization, a people group is the largest community where the Gospel can spread without barriers of understanding or acceptance.
Per the Joshua Project, Christian Adherent is anyone who professes to be Christian and is based on the individual’s self-confession. It is the broadest possible classification of Christian and includes marginal groups. This includes Evangelicals and anyone who identifies as a follower of Jesus, even if they do not use the word “Christian.”
Per the Joshua Project, Proclaimed Evangelicals are those People Groups who are believers and followers of Christ and are committed to Biblical preaching and evangelism that brings others to faith in Christ.
